The Christmas holidays are over, and your staff are returning to work pumped with enthusiasm for the New Year and all the positives they can bring to their role and your department.

Well that’s what you’d like to think, but what if the reality is very different and they’re feeling down and demotivated now that the excitement of pre-Christmas office parties and the inevitable gossip afterwards is so last year?
Now’s the time to pep them up with something to look forward to and there’s nothing better than kicking the year into gear with a fun team building activity.

There is a wealth of activities to choose from and the main thing is to pick one that’s inclusive to all. What might appeal to a 20-year-old gym bunny may not be so appealing to someone just back from maternity leave or close to retirement.
If you get it right, you will reap the rewards in your business and your team will be asking what you’ll be doing for the next one.

Here are some benefits of a team building activity:
1. Improved Teamworking and Communication
A team building activity together gives people a chance to get to know each other’s strengths, weaknesses and other interests. Knowledge they can use to help them work better together in the future.

2. Increased Motivation
That feeling you get when you successfully complete a task is so powerful. It motivates, builds confidence – both in the individuals and the management- and creates a new momentum to take forward when your team return to the office.

3. Improved Collaboration
It’s one thing working in the same office as your colleagues, but this doesn’t necessarily give them the chance to get to know each other. Some staff may not even work in the same location, so a team build gives teams the opportunity to build relationships and learn each other’s knowledge base and who to go to for help with future projects.

4. Increased Productivity
The mere fact that your team have been given some time out of the office to do something different together will make them feel appreciated and they will appreciate you more in return. Staff morale will rise which in turn increases productivity.

5. Encourages Creativity and Problem Solving
Working together on an activity where the team often must think “outside the box” encourages creativity in an environment where there is no fear of getting it wrong and everyone’s ideas are welcome. Seeing their ideas work can be a massive confidence boost for many and encourages this creativity to continue back in the workplace.

Once you decide that a team build is for you, you’ll need to make sure you get it right!
Watch out for our next blog with tips on how to plan the perfect event that your team will love, and your finance director will thank you for when they see the increase in staff morale and productivity.

"...it was a huge hit with the children. They have come away with new knowledge and enjoyed sharing it with family and friends. It was the right mix of information and activities and alternating from one to the other kept the children engaged. It's been a pleasurable experience dealing with Diane at Forensic Minds. Form start to finish nothing has been too much trouble. She runs a very accommodating and polite company"
